Tae Kwon Do

Tae-kwon-do is the martial art which appeared and evolved in Korea 2000 years ago. In 1955, it took its present name, which means:

Tae - foot and kick
Kwon - hand and fist
Do - road, way

In 1973 the first world games took place in Seul. In 1988 it was granted the status of official Olympic exhibition event by the I.O.C. and is an officially recognized sport in all 176 countries of the world where it is cultivated.
It came to Greece in 1969 and has shown marked progress ever since. There are more than 400 Tae-Kwon-Do clubs recognized by the General Secretariat of Athletics to which is also accountable the Greek Ta-kwon-do Association. The male and female athletes who distinguish themselves in Panhellenic events are assured, to a great extent, of their acceptance to the University of Physical Education (T.E.Ö.A.A.). Also, there are scholarships awarded to athletes-members of the Greek National Team.
